Eye Healing in Ambystoma mavortium

This photo series depicts the healing of a salamander eye. The source of the injury is unknown. The tiger salamander was staying above-ground, avoiding its usual digging, for several days, and on close inspection the eye injury was discovered on July 27. On that day, the salamander was moved to a cooler location (~68°F) and kept in a clinical setup consisting of a plastic tub with damp paper towels and a hide box. They eye was treated topically with triple-antibiotic ointment daily for the first week, then untreated for the remaining time. Aside from the eye, the salamander's behavior and appearance remained normal. On December 9, the salamander was returned to his normal terrarium setup.
